FE Complaints and Appeals Survey
NUS is pleased to launch a new survey looking into complaints and appeals in Further Education Colleges in England and Wales.
With increasing numbers of students making complaints about their learning experiences, it is important that there are effective processes in place to resolve these. Feedback received from FE students and their representatives at MyFE (April 2010) and FE Zone Conference (October 2010) tells us that students are concerned about complaints and appeals processes, and that they vary greatly from college to college. In England there is little knowledge of how college complaints and appeals processes link to the national FE funding bodies, and there are no national processes in Wales.
We want to gather an evidence base to help make the case for improving college procedures, and to develop a model college complaints procedure to ensure transparency and consistency of experience for students. It is hoped that this will encourage the introduction of a national system in Wales, whilst strengthening national oversight in England.
