More than 30 union officers, staff, and course reps met at Keele Students' Union on Monday to discuss the key issues facing postgraduate students with an aim to develop ideas for policy at the 2014 Postgraduate Sections Conference in March.
Delegates were joined by Anna Chowcat, PGT NEC, and Edmund Schlussel, NEC and PG committee member, and with presentations from NUS Research and Policy Officer, Adam Wright.
The morning was spent looking at the issues facing PGT students. Delegates were split into working groups to discuss key policy areas. Discussion focused on fees and funding, as well as issues relating to the flexibility and length of courses, and the involvement of business and industry.
In the afternoon, delegates discussed PGR, and looked in depth at the possibilities for fully funding PGR students as well as issues relating to postgraduates who teach, representation and unionisation.
