New PG lobby resources for Welsh unions

The Postgraduate Champions lobby is picking up pace. In June, a further four Vice Chancellors signed the checklist and seven new MPs were lobbied, all of whom were supportive of the campaign, with five taking their concerns directly to the Minister for Universities and Science, David Willetts MP.

NUS UK have been working in partnership with NUS Wales to expand the scope of the lobby to pick up Welsh MPs and Vice Chancellors, as well as members of the Welsh Assembly.

Wales has a similar postgraduate funding system to England, and therefore the financial issues for postgradautes studying at Welsh institutions are of great concern, including the economic and social impact on Wales if Welsh graduates are unable to finance study at postgraduate level in their local universities.

NUS has developed a set of bi-lingual checklists to be downloaded and used by Welsh students' unions for lobbying. They can be downloaded by following the links below:

NUS criticises ‘Know Your Limits’ rape poster campaign

NUS has expressed huge concern today at the ‘Know Your Limits’ recent poster campaign to tackle rape. The poster points out that in a third of reported rapes the victim had been drinking and warns people to monitor their alcohol consumption. It is available for download on the Home Office website and has been sighted in NHS premises.
