NUS and Amnesty International Student Media Summit

NUS and Amnesty International Student Media Summit

Wed 28 Aug 2013 12:00 - Thu 29 Aug 2013 17:00
Amnesty International UK, The Human Rights Action Centre

On 28 and 29 August 2013, we will be hosting the annual NUS and Amnesty International UK Student Media Summit.

The event is designed to help build and improve your skills, prepare you for your next step in journalism, and offer some excellent networking opportunities with professionals from across the industry.

It will also give you a unique opportunity to get some fresh and exclusive content for your outlet – so remember to bring a pen and recording equipment!

The summit will include:

  • Skills sessions on writing, interviewing, design, advertising revenue, photography and newsgathering
  • Question and answer sessions with leading national journalists in print, broadcast, foreign reporting, investigative journalism and new media
  • Opportunities to gather compelling content on human rights issues
  • An opportunity to quiz the NUS President face to face
  • Keynote speakers from the very top of their professions
  • A panel looking at different ways to get into professional journalism

Attendance is free (with a £5 registration charge to cover admin costs), but you will need to register to be able to attend. Food and drink will be provided over the two days.

Given limited capacity, there are two places per student media outlet in the first instance - any additional people will be placed on a waiting list and allocated any available places at the start of September.

We'll also be launching the Student Human Rights Reporter of the Year Award 2013/14 - you'll learn all about the award, the amazing selection of prizes we're putting together and details of how to enter.

For further information, please contact Lewis Cooper (lewis.cooper@nus.org.uk 07585 969 852).

NUS are not organising accommodation for this event, but you can book accommodation at The University of Westminster halls of residence, which are near by, for £39.00/night. Book your accommodation here.
