Officer Development

Education and representation 2014

This course provides officers with a remit for higher education with crucial knowledge and skill development for success in their role.

In addition to this, the course provides a unique opportunity for officers to develop networks with their peers across the country and NUS staff and officers.

For the first time, NUS would like to invite students’ union staff who directly support officers with an education remit to attend the final day of the course.

Whilst, we hope that delegates learn and develop over the course of the three days, we know that this can only really be taken to heart if staff in students’ unions are able to reinforce that learning throughout the year – so please join us and find out what delegates have been getting up to!

Who is it for:

Full course:

  • Education officers of HE affiliated unions
  • Education and Welfare officers of HE affiliated unions
  • HE specific officers in affiliated FE students' unions

Final day of the course:

  • Frontline union staff members who work in and support officers with an education remit

Please be advised that staff member spaces are limited to 2 per union for the final day of the course.

There will be a waiting list you can add staff to and if there is space on close of registration (2 weeks before the course) we will approach people on from the waiting list, on a first-come-first-served basis.

Learning outcomes:

By the end of the course, delegates will have developed:
  • Confidence to challenge - be that senior decision makers, their peers or themselves.
  • How to be an authority in their role
  • The ability to advocate – for themselves and for others
  • How to build and manage relationships in a range of different contexts
  • How to be a professional in the unique context of a students’ union officer, and that is authentic to them.
