Student support and funding

The discrepancies between further and higher education support leave many learners in the lurch when it comes to funding. NUS Wales is currently researching the state of student support and funding within Wales' further education. Our findings will inform a future campaign for change.

Union Development 

Colleges in Wales are in need of strong unions. NUS Wales has poured its energy into developing these students' unions alongside better democratic structures through the FE Student Representation Project.

Many learners are in the lurch because they lack support and funding crucial to their studies. NUS Wales has begun to research this priority area with a survey of students in further education.

 
Wales’ further education project adds five colleges

NUS Wales adds five more colleges to its FE Student Representation project, as well as building a new resources page for class representatives and student governors.

 
Scrapping EMA? Not in Wales!

Leighton Andrews AM, the Minister for Children, Education and Lifelong learning this week confirmed that he would be protecting the Education Maintenance Allowance in Wales. NUS Wales is delighted that the devolved administrations have recognised the value of the EMA scheme to young people from low income households in post 16 education.

 
NUS Wales pilots Student Governors Support Programme

NUS Wales has launched a pilot to better support colleges in supporting student governors in Wales. Bridgend College, Cardiff and Vale College, Coleg Gwent and St. David's Catholic College began participating in late September.
