Open Your Mind

Welcome to Open Your Mind - campaigning to support the mental health of students in Northern Ireland since 2007. 

Open Your Mind is a partnership project between NUS-USI (National Union of Students and Union of Students in Ireland) and MindWise, working together to; 

  • Promote awareness of mental health issues amongst students aged 16-25 across Northern Ireland
  • Reduce the risk factors related to mental illness through awareness-raising
  • Overcome the stigma and discrimination associated with mental illness

The project targets 16-25 year old students in further or higher Education in Northern Ireland and has been funded by the Public Health Agency

Open Your Mind is seeking a Volunteer Coordinator. This voluntary position will involve providing guidance and support to Open Your Mind Volunteers, and liaising with institutions regarding volunteer opportunities.

The successful candidate will have access to extensive training and support through Mindwise and NUS-USI, and will be expected to work one day per week from the NUS-USI office. Expenses will be covered. The deadline for applications is Friday 22nd March 2013. For enquiries please contact Edward.Pinkney@nistudents.org.

Open Your Mind is recruiting for volunteers. If you're a student based in Northern Ireland and interested in taking a leading role in running events, campaigns, and workshops to promote mental health on campuses, apply now. All volunteers will receive OCN accredited training.

Design Competition

Open Your Mind is running a student design competition, inviting creative students in Northern Ireland to come up with an advert to help tackle stress on campus. The winning design will be distributed to campuses around Northern Ireland and the UK, and the winner will get a placement with Kaizen Print and £200 in Amazon Vouchers. The runner up will also get a £200 Amazon Voucher. Downloads:

Open Your Mind delivers OCN accredited mental health and personal development training. If you're interested in hosting training at your institution, or participating yourself, you can download a flyer here. Shorter workshops are also available.

Welcome to NUS-USI. My name is Rebecca Hall, I am the President of NUS-USI, which is an organisation formed by the National Union of Students UK (NUSUK) and the Union of Students in Ireland (USI).

We provide representation and support to students throughout their time at University or College here in Northern Ireland. We represent all students in both the Higher Education and Further Education Sector. NUS-USI is the voice of almost 200,000 students in Northern Ireland!
